China is noisy.

The sign at the left is from the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding. The pandas like it quiet. No wonder they are going  extinct in modern China!

It’s noisy here, between the construction and the traffic. It seems like every major road has a building project, every block has a new building going up, and every little stall is being remodeled. I don’t hear music, but I hear cell phones and horns honking and jackhammers running all night and all day.

I can’t believe there isn’t a booming business in ear plugs. I asked at four shops yesterday – no ear plugs. I’ll hit up Walmart next. Or maybe I should stay in Chengdu and set up my own ear plug shop.

  1. I know you are an ONPS summer school teacher currently working in the same building floor with me. So I advise that you go Ito Yokado where I bought a pair of ear plugs.

  2. I was looking for info on the ONPS program and this is one of the only mentions I’ve found of it outside of ONPS-created information. I’m considering teaching there in summer 2013. How is/was your time with the program? Would you recommend it to others?
