Well, no one knows when Prince Gautama Siddhattha was born. No one knows when Jesus Christ was born, either. Heck, my late Grandma Logue lied about her age so much that no one knew for sure how old she was when she died. (Among other things, the date of mother’s birth didn’t match on her three children’s birth certificates.)
The Zen Buddhist Temple of Chicago is celebrating Buddha’s Birthday today, May 20. And you know what? It’s as good a reason for a celebration as any.
I think we need more celebrations in life. Fewer gift-giving occasions – those cause a lot of stress – but more celebrations.
