Yeah, yeah, yeah. Time is money, right? Today’s topic for Women’s Money Week is about finding time and increasing productivity, but those are subjects that wear me out. Don’t you get tired of hearing about how your life could be perfect if only you could learn to manage your time better?
My breakthrough happened when I realized that I didn’t have to be perfect at everything. Not everything worth doing has to be done right. It’s a tough one to get your head around sometimes, because the expectations can be so high. But do you need to get a manicure every week? Does the bed have to be made with hospital corners? Do you really need a new dress?
Getting to that space where good enough is, well, good enough wasn’t easy. I am a huge fan of the FlyLady; her site is about how to do housework with less stress, but it’s also about how to let go the need to be perfect. Housework done imperfectly still blesses your family, she says, and she’s right: if you do a little cleaning, it’s better than if you did none. If you are struggling with finding time to get everything done, or even some things done, go check out the FlyLady.
You can use her system to get your life under control without trying to be perfect. And that will save your sanity, and maybe save you some money, too.
March 8 – March 13 is Women’s Money Week 2013, and every day, a bunch of bloggers – including me – are writing about different issues affecting women and their money. I’m cross-posting this on Chicago on the Cheap as well.
