Great info from the ASBPE Conference

rp_DSC_2839-300x199-300x199.jpgLast week, I attended the ASBPE Conference – the American Society of Business Publication Editors – and learned a few new things.

I learned a lot about making and editing smartphone videos. I have already put the information to work!

A few things of general note:

  • The sweet spot for story length is anything less than 800 words or more than 1000. People seem to want either very short news or long, detailed stories, not anything in between.
  • Email may be having a renaissance, with email newsletters becoming the way that many readers prefer to read news that matters to them.
  • Readers want different forms of content on different platforms.

I spoke about reading SEC documents, and Erik Sherman discussed all sorts of other government filings: patents and trademarks, non-profit filings, regulatory enforcement records, and other information.

Now I’m back and ready to get back to work. And you?
